Tribute to Ms. Rutha Mae Harris

While at Geneva College attending the Rhetoric of the Civil Rights Movement class, instructor Dr. Todd Allen telephoned his friend, the Original Freedom Singer of The Civil Rights Movement; the legendary Ms. Rutha Mae Harris.

This afforded the students an opportunity to ask questions about her roll in the The Civil Rights Movement and hear her gift of songs, sung by The Freedom Singers during that era.

Renee’ wrote a poem as a tribute to Ms. Rutha Mae Harris’ service to humanity, which led to the poem being published by Judith Hampton-Thompson Publisher, The Metro Gazette Publishing Company, Inc., Albany Georgia. Read her story on the Metro Gazette site.

Since then Renee’s poetry has been used for various occasions, across God’s seas in Albany Georgia, Jacksonville, Florida, New York, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tulum, Mexico, and Wake Forest, North Carolina.
